A lovely way to experience the Wine Road is to leisurely breeze through the vines and villages by bicycle. This is made easy thanks to bike routes that fan out from Strasbourg into the countryside, with emphasis on cycle lanes (les pistes cyclables in French) that prohibit cars (see routes on www.wineroute.alsace/cycling). One of these is a 27km- (17 mile-) stretch that runs southwest from Strasbourg to the wine hamlet of Molsheim. It has a forest on one side, the banks of the Brûche River (a tributary of the Rhine) on the other, and little car traffic. You can rent bikes from L’increvable, 3, place de Zurich (https://location-velo-strasbourg.com; tel. 09-83-52-86-44). Their rates start at 25€ per day, and 42€ weekly. It’s open Monday 2pm to 7pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 7:30am to 12:30pm and 2pm to 7pm, Wednesday 7:30am to 7pm and on weekends by appointment (hours are slightly reduced in winter).
