Nestled in the tiny medieval village of Kientzheim, next to popular Kaysersberg and surrounded by rolling vines, is one of most charming, excellent value inns of the Wine Route. For three generations, the Schillé-Gisie family have been running this hotel-restaurant in a completely renovated 18th-century mansion. Guestrooms are divided between the main house and an equally delightful annex. Each room features Alsatian character, exposed wooden beams, exposed stonewalls, solid wooden furniture, and colorful decorative elements. Six rooms in the main building have recently refitted bathrooms with either large showers or tubs.
The restaurant mirrors the hotel’s attractive Alsatian appeal. The menu of sophisticated French and regional classics includes foie gras with Beraweka fruit conserve or choucroute royale, which go perfectly with the family’s own wines. On warm days, savor a leisurely lunch on their lovely terrace surrounded by bright flowers and storybook houses.
