The original owners of Villa Decary were hardcore palm enthusiasts, so the grounds and gardens are planted with scores of unique species, including the Madagascar three-sided palm, or Dypsis decaryi, named for the French botanist Raymond Decary, who is also the namesake of this B&B. The grounds are beautiful, but you’ll also like the cozy rooms, which are decorated with panache (bright Guatemalan bedspreads, and walls adorned with wildlife photos and primitive-style nature paintings). Rooms in the main building feature picture windows and private balconies with wonderful views of Lake Arenal; there are also three private casitas with full kitchens and more space.
