What a long, strange trip it’s been for this, the premiere gay nightclub in Vegas now finally back on the Strip after an unfortunate detour into Downtown. After years as a mainstay at Planet Hollywood, the club tried to take over a former movie theater complex on Fremont Street to become the world’s largest gay nightclub. It barely lasted two months. Now it’s operating out of the Empire Ballroom facility, a venue that was hosting nightclubs in Vegas before nightclubs were cool. The space has a small, laid-back ultralounge up front and a theater-style dance club in back with multiple bars, VIP booths, and lots of impossibly beautiful men as go-go dancers and wait-staff. The crowd is mostly tourists (locals hate this place) and mostly young, but it does have a more come-as-you-are vibe than most gay clubs do. Finding it can be a challenge; look for the Walgreen’s across the street from the Monte Carlo and head down the driveway toward the back of the shopping center. Krave is open Friday and Saturday from 10:30pm until late.
