This Romanesque cathedral was conceived as a shelter and prayer site for medieval pilgrims heading to the religious shrines of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. Marked by vivid Oriental and Byzantine influences, it's worth a visit. The cloisters contain carved capitals dating from the Carolingian era. Occupying the cathedral's original treasury, and accessible from inside the cathedral, is Le Musée d'Art Religieux. It contains fabrics, religious icons, and gold and silver objects, including an unusual enameled chalice from the 12th century, that have been associated with the church for many centuries.
