The best stays in Le Shan were once within the park itself, but they have all since closed down. A nice alternative is the Xiandao Dajiudian (Xiandao Hotel), Wulong Ba 2 (tel. 0833/230-1755; fax 0833/2301352), a 2-minute walk to the back entrance of the park. Out of the city on Dao Long Island, it is surrounded by waterways and greenery. Although the rooms can be a little damp, it makes for a pleasant escape from the dust and general blandness of Le Shan itself. Standard rooms cost ¥280, but management is open to negotiation. The most comfortable place to stay in downtown Le Shan is the Jia Zhou Binguan, Baita Jie 19 (tel. 0833/213-9888; fax 0833/213-3233). It's a three-star hotel with basic modern rooms for ¥360 (up to 50% discount) and a restaurant. A number of good small restaurants are also in the vicinity of this hotel. Yang's is inexpensive, with Chinese and Western food and an English menu; it's located at Baita Jie 49 (tel. 0833/211-2046). Richard Yang, the proprietor, has a wealth of local knowledge and personal anecdotes. A vegetarian restaurant specializing in faux meat dishes is on Wuyou Shan behind Daxiong Temple.
