MUSAC (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León)

We seriously doubt that the city of León will ever rival, say, Berlin for international hipness, but even León deserves a taste of the avant-garde, which this museum supplies in spades. From the exterior, its panels of stained glass evoke a box of Crayola crayons or a rack of paint chips in the “bold” collection. Even on a dreary winter day MUSAC looks cheery and inviting. The collections focuses on work created from the 1960's on, and the programming has won a number of European awards for daring innovation in presenting conceptual pieces, like a re-created car accident. Marcel Duchamp is no doubt chuckling in his grave. . It’s a 20-minute walk from the cathedral, or take bus 7, 11, or 12.
