More secluded than the JW Marriott a few blocks away, this posh Belmond property (formerly called Orient Express) has been continually updated since its opening in 1996. It remains one of Lima’s preeminent hotels. All of the rooms are suites, starting with spacious junior-level accommodations and ending with butler service in the expansive Presidential Suites. Rooms are tastefully decorated with light, earthy tones and fine wood furniture. Some of the best bathrooms in town are here, with marble floors, rainfall shower heads, and saunas. Just off the malecón, the hotel’s views across the Costa Verde, particularly from the 11th-floor heated rooftop pool and Observatory Restaurant, are spectacular. Not that it needed it, but in 2010 renowned Peruvian architect Jordi Puig redesigned the ground floor, which now features a sleek fusion restaurant called Tragaluz and an open-air cocktail lounge.
