One of the least expensive hotels in Lima sits right in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, near the Convento de San Francisco and just 4 blocks from the Plaza de Armas. This popular budget hostel may be basic, but the labyrinthine old building that houses it is filled with quirky charm, from the roaming tortoises and peacock, to the reproduction Roman busts and actual mummies. There’s a mix of concrete and creaky parquet floors, with bright walls in the rooms. Most of the accommodations come with shared bathrooms. A rooftop terrace with views of the church is a great place to hang and trade travel tales. This isn’t a party hostel by any means, so a good night’s sleep is easier to find here than at similar properties.
