One level trail that's inviting for hikers of any level of fitness is the Wilderness Trail along the East Branch of the Pemigewasset River. Head east on Route 112 (the Kancamagus Hwy.) from I-93 for 5 miles, then watch for the parking lot on the left just past the bridge. Both sides of the river are open to the public. The Wilderness Trail on the west side runs a little more than 3 miles to beautiful, remote Black Pond, while an abandoned railroad bed on the east side makes for smooth mountain biking. The two trails can even be linked by fording the river where the rail bed is crossed by a gate; obviously, you'll get wet doing this.
