The Looking Glass is a good choice for families and those who want to be near the beach but don’t have to be right on it. Located in the historic Taft District and across the street from Siletz Bay, the Looking Glass, with its cedar shingles and white trim, has a classic Cape Cod feel. Only a couple of the rooms here have rather tame partial views of the wild Pacific, seen over parking lots and nearby buildings, but the entrance to the beach on Siletz Bay is only one block away. What this all means is that you can get a nice, clean room in this well-maintained and pet-friendly property for less money. That’s for digs with whirlpool tubs, balconies, or gas fireplaces. While most hotels that claim to be pet-friendly simply tolerate dogs, this hotel welcomes dogs with open arms. Bring your pooch with you, and your canine companion will get a basket with water and food bowls, sheets, towels, and doggy treats at check-in. Speaking of “dining,” the famous Mo’s chowder house is right across the street from the Looking Glass, and the inn will give you a coupon for a free bowl of Mo’s famous clam chowder.
