Planning a trip to Lindau
Tourist-Information is at Alfred-Nobel-Platz 1 (tel. 08382/260031; www.lindau.de). The office is open April to September Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm and 2 to 6pm, Saturday 10am to 1pm and 3 to 6pm, and Sunday 10am to 1pm; from October to March, it is open Monday to Friday 9am to noon and 2 to 5pm.
Getting There
Lindau is connected to the mainland by a road bridge and a causeway for walkers and trains. It's a transportation link between the western part of Lake Constance and the towns of Austria and Switzerland, which lie directly across the water. Regional flights come in to the Friedrichshafen airport. The nearest major airport is Zürich.
By Train
The Lindau Bahnhof is on the major Basel-Singen-Radolfzell-Lindau and Lindau-Kissleg-Memmingen-Buchloe rail lines, with frequent connections in all directions. Direct trains from both Munich and Stuttgart leave every 2 hours and take 2 3/4 hours. Call tel. 01805/996633, or visit www.bahn.de for information.
By Bus
Regional bus service along Lake Constance is offered by RAB Regionalverkehr Alb-Bodensee GmbH (tel. 0751/2766; www.zugbus-rab.de).
By Ferry
Three to five ferries per day (depending on the season) link Lindau with Konstanz and Bregenz in Austria. Boats from Konstanz stop at Mainau, Meersburg, and Friedrichshafen before Lindau and Bregenz; the entire trip takes no less than 3 hours. By Car
Access by car from Munich is via the north-south A96 and the B31, skirting the northern shore of the lake.
