Getting There

The nearest airport is 15 minutes away at Taizhou. Huangyan Luqiao Airport (tel. 0572/250-6578) is relatively small; it has daily flights to and from major cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou but has no international services. A larger airport is Yongqiang Airport outside Wenzhou, which is about 100km (62 miles) from Linhai. There are flights between Wenzhou and Hong Kong. The airport for Hangzhou is Xiaoshan International Airport, which has air connections to international cities such as Hong Kong, Macao, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Sydney, and Singapore.

A new east coast rail line is about to be completed and Linhai station is due to open in early 2010. In the meantime, make do with the express buses. Bank on at least three hours to Hangzhou (¥99, every 20 minutes) and 90 minutes back down to Wenzhou (every hour). Getting to the resort of Yandangshan is more complicated, requiring at least two changes, and so it is better to head to Wenzhou first. Along with the railway construction, the highways are undergoing major upgrades and travel times to Hangzhou and Shanghai should soon be cut down to two and four hours, respectively.

Getting Around

All taxis are a ¥6 flagfall but a more common option, as in nearby Wenzhou are the sanlunche, which will take passengers on short distances around the city for ¥5 to ¥10. Public buses have a minimum fare of ¥1; most charge that as their flat fare.
