The Ivens

Opened with considerable fanfare in early 2022, this extravagant 5-star venture occupies a 18th-century bloc that previously housed the studios of a national radio station. It sits at the corner of two streets named for Hermengildo Capelo and Roberto Ivens, explorers who in the 1880s became the first Europeans to cross central Africa from coast to coast. In their memory, the hotel is an exuberant ode to the jungle, with tropical wood-paneled bars, vintage wall coverings stamped with palms and parrots, potted plants and sculptured wildlife. There’s a grand restaurant serving classic Italian cuisine and rooms with the space, style and appliances you’d expect with these prices.

87 units. Free parking. Amenities: 2 restaurant; bar; fitness room; free Wi-Fi.
