If you love beef, the way JFP’s Josper grill can almost mystically seal in the flavors of its Yorkshire Longhorn could blow your mind, but then again, the burger topped with oxtail-stock mayo might also do it. It’s not just about beef, though; fish, duck, and pork (that’s cut like beef) are also knowingly prepared in generous portions—most proteins come from The Ginger Pig, a network of principled farmers. Sides such as truffled mac-and-cheese and tomato salad underscore the traditional cuisine goals, but the friendly, groovily 1970s downstairs dining space makes a convivial hideaway, good for conversation and stretching out when you’re in Shoreditch. It’s an especially good stop on Sunday afternoons for its weekly roast, and the upstairs bar is open until midnight Monday to Saturday.
