You’re really in the countryside by the time you reach Cosgaya, so it’s a treat to encounter the Hotel of the Bear next to the Río Deva in the Liébana valley. The rooms are small and feature just a bed or two and a chair and table, but they all have modern private bathrooms. The onsite restaurant Mesón del Oso serves big portions of local cooking. It’s open daily for lunch and dinner; entrees are 14€–28€. In season, the best dishes on the menu feature trout from the river outside the door. Grilled steak with Cabrales cheese sauce is also a specialty. Desserts are all homemade, like tarts made with local fruits. From Potes, take the road signposted to Espinama 15km (9 1/3 miles) south.
