Housed in the Jean Nouvel–designed KKL, the Kunstmuseum is central Switzerland's best fine arts museum, with a collection that primarily consists of Swiss art from the Renaissance to the present day. One of the most important areas of the collection is the landscape paintings by noted Swiss artist Ferdinand Hodler. Contemporary Swiss art (from the 1970s on) is another of the museum's strong points, and there is a roster of themed temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
