From its reception area's icy design ethos to its superior conference facilities, the Astoria targets business travelers, although some rooms may be too close to its top-floor Penthouse nightclub for some. That said, predominantly white-toned rooms (ranging from the recently spruced-up standard rooms to deluxe design rooms) are minimalist and very smart (although a little small, according to some). All 90 of the hotel's "Design" rooms were designed by Switzerland's famous Herzog & de Meuron firm; these feature timber flooring, rain showers, and a little extra caché. Located close to the Old Town center and a very short stroll to the Sammlung Rosengart, the KKL and main train station, the Astoria is also ideal for those not looking to travel too far when it comes to dining well: there are three onsite restaurants, including the popular La Cucina (Italian).
