Luquillo Beach Travel Guide

Luquillo Beach is a hugely popular mile-long beach on the north coast of Puerto Rico. A wide arc of white sand lined with palm trees and coconut groves, it is especially popular with the less mobile since it has a wheelchair-accessible pathway, Mar Sin Barreras, down to the crystal clear, refreshing waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

The beach has showers, cafés and a big parking lot. At sunset, visitors can take a horse ride along the sand, or simply sit back and watch the sky change colour.

Just southeast of Luquillo are the islands of Culebra and Vieques, accessible by an hour's ferry ride from the town of Fajardo. These intimate palm-lined beaches have beautiful water and are a little quieter than busy Luquillo.
