Restaurants in Lyon
The Lyonnais take their cuisine seriously. Michelin stars and culinary associations abound in this gastronomic hub that produces many of France’s top chefs. Vieux Lyon’s rue du Boeuf has become the city’s most Michelin-starred street with a number of celebrated restaurantsi. Nearby, chef Guy Lassausaie has taken Fourvière Hill by storm with his new restaurant, Bulle.
Many of the city's less expensive restaurants cluster on lively Presqu'île and in touristy Vieux Lyon, from classic Brasserie Georges to cosy, distinctive 'bouchons' serving traditional Lyonnais andouillettes (tripe), pork and chicken at modest prices. Dine at the latter, and you'll be seated at a gingham-clothed table laden with such distinctive dishes as quenelles de brochet (creamed pike, pictured) and andouillettes Lyonnaises (course-grained pork sausages in an onion sauce). Opt for good-value set menus. Excellent cheap dining can be found at the covered market, Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse.
Note that restaurants in central Lyon are often open weekdays only. Mealtimes are fairly inflexible: 12pm-2pm for lunch, 8pm-9.30pm for dinner.
