Getting There -- Drive on I-75 South from Atlanta, exiting at the signposted exits.

Greyhound (tel. 800/231-2222; www.greyhound.com) offers regular service to Macon. The greyhound bus terminal is at 65 Spring St. (tel. 478/743-2868).

Visitor Information -- If you're traveling south toward Macon on I-75, there's a welcome center (tel. 478/994-8181) and rest area north of the city, open daily from 8:30am to 5:30pm. When you get into town, the Downtown Macon Welcome Center, 450 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Macon, GA 31201 (tel. 800/768-3401 or 478/743-3401; www.maconga.org), at the foot of Cherry Street in the historic Macon Terminal Station, will provide you with information. It's open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

Special Events -- The Cherry Blossom Festival is traditionally held around the last 10 days in March. During that time, 500 activities are held around the city. You'll find everything from hot-air ballooning to a giant parade with marching bands and floats. Many events are held in the city parks. The residential areas are filled with thousands of Yoshino cherry trees.
