Tron Lightcyle Run

The most monumental ride addition to Magic Kingdom in 30 years is a duplicate of a coaster that debuted at Shanghai Disneyland in 2016, and boy, is it a treat. Riders mount illuminated futurist bicycles and are safely clamped into place with built-in back braces before being abruptly fired at high speed through an aerial circuit under an outdoor canopy—you feel, for a fleeting moment, like a soaring bird. Then the coaster plunges into a knotted indoor portion concealed from the outside. Here we have a Grade A rush, pleasing on all levels, from its novel seating system to the elegant arcs of its curves, but without any inversions. From departure to completion, it’s not even two minutes long, but its memorability exceeds its duration. Dusk is a particularly gratifying moment to indulge in its cobalt (and occasionally, orange) lighting and cyberpunk style. It’s unlike any coaster you’re likely to have ridden before, which is why you shouldn’t miss it. This is Space Mountain for a new generation—the ne plus ultra of Disney thrills. Tip: There’s a compartment no larger than a cellphone or sunglasses in the console of the ride vehicle, otherwise you’ll be required to put your loose items in a free locker (accessed with your MagicBand or ticket) situated just before the load area. Some larger guests report difficulty fitting on the vehicle, so test the sample vehicle out front. At the least, you need to be able to step over a knee-high obstacle to get on, otherwise you should ask for the car that has standard seating. Available on Single Entry Lightning Lane
