In Minori
Minori is a little culinary heaven that is proud of its specialties, both savory and sweet. In the former category are sarchiapone (squash filled with ground meat and ricotta and cooked in a tomato sauce) and 'ndunderi (fresh homemade dumplings made of spelt flour and fresh cheese, served with olive oil, cheese, local herbs, and often chopped walnuts). The latter category is best represented by the mouth-watering sospiri, or Zizz'e monache; the first name translates as "sighs," and the second as "nuns' breasts" -- the sacred and profane names for the delicious dome-shaped pastries filled with lemon cream. You can taste sospiri and additional wonderful pastries at Pasticceria De Riso, Piazza Cantilena 1 (tel. 089-877396; www.deriso.it), one of the best pastry shops in Italy.
