Planning a trip to Malbork

The Malbork Welcome Center (Kosciuszki 54; tel. 55/647-47-47; www.visitmalbork.pl) is open weekdays from 8am to 4pm. The Living History guide produced by the center includes a section on the minor attractions in town. If all you need is a map, any hotel will be able to give you one.

Getting There

Malbork is about 60km (37 miles) south of Gdansk and 316km (196 miles) north of Warsaw.

By Train -- Malbork lies on the main Gdansk-Warsaw rail line. Departures from both cities are frequent. The trains arrive on Dworcowa Street, which is about a 15-minute walk from the castle. Taxis to the castle cost around 15 z.

By Car -- From Gdansk, drive south along the E75 highway. Figure on about 45 minutes. From Warsaw, take the E77 and exit to Road 22 for Malbork. Journey time is about 4 1/2 hours. There is paid parking on Piastowska Street, near the castle.

By Taxi -- From Gdansk, a taxi ride costs about 250 z, depending on traffic conditions. You can use City Taxi Plus Neptun (tel. 196-86).
