Choices are thin on the ground in Maqin, and the Dawu Binguan (tel. 0975/838-2142) on Tuanjie Lu remains the best of them. Located just south (right) of the bus station, Maqin's premier hotel has sunny midsize rooms in building 2 (er lou; ¥120). Beds are comfy, but in spite of new electric showers, the tubs are grubby and the plumbing is shoddy. The reception staff is so indolent that they will ask you to go tell the maid to check your room, rather than pick up the phone in front of them.
