Rommel's Cave

Frommer's Staff

If you're a war or history buff, you're not going to want to miss the cave that Rommel used to plan the eastward offensive against the Allied forces that ultimately ground to a halt at Al Alamein. Though the military museum that now calls the place home comprises little more than some withering uniforms, including a coat that supposedly belonged to the Desert Fox himself, a clothing chest donated by his son, and some old photos, I think the quick trip outside town or on the way to one of the beaches is worth it for the location and the cave.
