Cosquer Méditerranée

In 1985, local diver Henri Cosquer discovered a mysterious tunnel entrance 36m below the surface near the charming resort of Cassis. It took him six years to navigate the 175m long tunnel. When Cosquer finally emerged, holding a diver's light, into a vast cave complex, he got the shock of his life: human handprints and spell-binding drawings of penguins, seals, and horses untouched for 20,000 years. Opened in 2022, the seafront Cosquer Méditerranée (next to Mucem) is a near exact replica of the cave, where multilingual headphone tours are conducted in electronic carts that move through the interactive exhibition.
