Newly restored and looking quite magnificent, Masaya's main church is certainly worth a visit and a makes for a quiet break from the frantic shopping. Damaged by the 2000 earthquake, it dates back to 1750 but was modified in the early 19th century. It has a more restrained interior design than the more baroque churches elsewhere in the country, and is all the more interesting for it. Precious woods and intricate tiling go with the simple forms and elegant lines.
