By Car -- Massa sits on the SS439, 22km (13 1/2 miles) inland from Follonica and a twisty-turny 65km (40 miles) south of Volterra. From Siena, head southwest on the SS73 then the SS441 for 67km (41 1/2 miles). The most convenient parking is in Piazza Mazzini.

By Train -- Massa Marittima doesn't have its own train station, but there's a stop at Follonica on the main line between Rome (11 daily; 2 1/2 hr.) and Pisa (18 daily; 80 min.). Buses meet incoming trains for the ride to Massa.
