Some of the best restaurants are located outside the city. In fact, if you are staying in any of the finca lodges listed above, you can experience fresh, organic food right where it is grown. El Pullazo, on the highway to Managua (tel. 505/277-4449), is humble in appearance but big at heart. The menu is genuine Nicaraguan, with great beef dishes, guirila pancakes, and cuajada cheese. It must be one of the few places with a fish tank in the northern highlands. It is open daily from 10am to 11pm. Restaurante Piques (tel. 505/2772-2723) is a laid-back Mexican restaurant, half a block east of the BAC bank, close to Parque Morazán. It is open daily from 10am to midnight.
