This is as close to a hostel as you can get in Hana, but in a beautifully renovated rambling house on a lushly landscaped 1-acre lot with views of Hana Bay. Formerly known as Joe’s Place, the house was originally built in 1923, completely rebuilt in in 1982, and then lovingly restored in 2018 by new owner Gabby Franklin and family, who replaced virtually every fixture and piece of furniture. The seven bedrooms—only one with private bathroom—are still somewhat spartan, but have comfy new beds and attractive wood floors. The shared baths are clean and modern, too. Upstairs rooms nos. 5 and 6 have views of the bay (a 4-min. walk away) as well as king beds; families will want to book no. 7, which can sleep up to six with two double beds and two singles (including a bunk with one of each); it has its own bathroom across the hall. All guests are welcome to use the large, updated living room with HD-TV and cable, as well as the older but functional kitchen, outfitted with pots and pans.
