“Romantic hideaway” may be a cliché, but it’s an apt characterization for this unique, enchanting enclave on a remote promontory off the Hana Highway. It includes a two-bedroom house with loft and three cottages tucked among tall coconut palms and sharing a large free-form garden pool. All units have a private hot tub, kitchen or kitchenette, colorful tropical decor, and intoxicating views; cottages also have beautiful outdoor showers. Haleakala Cottage is a studio with a Cal-king bed, three lanais (garden and mountain scenery), and a full kitchen. The Rainbow Honeymoon Lookout just has a fridge, sink, and dishwasher in its kitchenette, but it boasts ocean and Haleakala views, as well as four lanais, two within sight of waterfalls. View junkies will want to rent the Lookout House, to gaze at a huge stretch of the Hana Coast—sometimes with whales spouting just off the point—as well as admire the vast greenery lining gullies and ridges. The house comes with a full kitchen, of course, and 2.5 bathrooms; renting just the top floor is also an option. Heated towel racks make misty mornings especially delicious.
