Embedded in colorful Paia town, this vibrant boutique inn offers a stylish introduction to Maui’s north shore. The inn is comprised of several vintage buildings that get progressively closer to the turquoise waters of Paia Bay. The nine rooms in the main building hang right over Hana Highway’s restaurants, surf shops, and cafes. After a day of mingling with big-wave surfers, yoga teachers, and other north-shore dwellers, slip up to your soundproofed room and sink into the 500-thread-count sheets. The owner’s impeccable style seeps into every corner of the inn, from the organic Malie bath products in the travertine-tiled showers to the antique Balinese drawers repurposed as sink cabinets. The one- and two-bedroom suites in the next buildings are spacious, secluded retreats where you’ll feel immediately at home. My favorite, no. 10, has a private outdoor shower and four-poster daybed. But it can’t rival the three-bedroom beach house nestled up against the golden, sandy beach. Idyllic in every way, this miniature mansion is outfitted with a Viking stove, Jacuzzi, gorgeous artwork, and huge outdoor living room. It’s exclusive enough to attract celebrities, who’ve made it their Maui headquarters. And there’s more: At press time, a tapas restaurant and rooftop bar was under construction.
