In 2009, culinary-school and surfing buddies Travis Morrin, Cody Christopher, and Jaron Blosser figured a catering company would allow them time to catch waves in between kitchen duties. But demand for their varied cuisines—Southwestern, Pacific Rim, and Hawaiian—soon prompted them to open a fullblown causal restaurant, not too far from the surf, with affordable breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. Panko-crusted ahi roll (among a huge sushi menu), kalua pork quesadilla, and Hawaiian-style ribs represent satisfying signature dishes, with hot chocolate lava cake a popular finisher. Surfboards, naturally, greet you at the door, with impressive wave photography in the lounge and oil paintings by local artists in the dining room; a large monkeypod tree shades the pleasant outdoor patio. Note: The chefs’ spinoff in Kihei, the somewhat healthier-themed Fork & Salad ★ in Azeka Shopping Center, 1278 S. Kihei Rd. (https://forkandsaladmaui.com; [tel] 808/793-3256), has also won acclaim, recently sprouting a second location in Kahului.
