The outdoor areas are the lure here: Set on a hill, in the midst of 20 lush acres of colorful tropical plants and trees (including rare species, such as a Sri Lankan cinnamon tree), this resort has a swell river pool, with slides, that unfolds beneath towering palms and between giant boulders. Indoors, well—rooms and public areas are clean but in sore need of renovation and the Wi-Fi is iffy. That being said the on-site El Castillo restaurant has good food, which gets even better at night. The property is located close to the University of Puerto Rico local campus, the zoo, and the downtown historic district.
