Dominating the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyards, the Rock of Solutré and its environs, including the Rock of Vergisson, have been inhabited by man for 57,000 years. In 2013, the area received the label “Grand Site de France.” Visitors can find out more about the site’s history in the Musée Départemental de Préhistoire, at the base of the Rock of Solutré, before walking to the top for panoramic views (493m/1,617 ft.; takes about 30 min.). Be sure to arrive early for a car parking space in summer.
