Restaurants in Mâcon
Mâcon has a clutch of good restaurants, with young chefs serving up quality French and Bourguignon cuisine. Notably L’Ardoise, 19 rue Franche (tel. 03-85-31-62-26; Tues–Sat noon–1:30pm and 7–9:30pm), Ma Table en Ville, 5 rue de Strasbourg (www.matableenville.fr; tel. 03-85-30-99-91; daily 11:45am–1:30pm and 7:30–9pm), and Cassis, 74 rue Jospeh Dufour (www.cassisrestaurant-macon.fr; tel 03-85-38-24-53; Mon–Sat noon–1:30pm and 7:30–9pm). All have lunch menus for less than 30€ with main courses between 18€ and 40€.
Four generations of Blanc chefs have dominated the restaurant scene around Mâcon. The original Mère Blanc’s Bresse chicken in a cream sauce with basmati rice is so legendary that this free-range chicken has become a Blanc trademark. The Blanc restaurant empire now extends from Lyon to its postcard-perfect hub in the village of Vonnas (www.georgesblanc.com).
