Medellín’s grand dame has definitely seen better days, but it still has a classic lobby lavished with marble and crystal chandeliers, a nice pool area, and breathtaking views from the top-floor rotating restaurant. The location is hard to beat; it’s just a 10-minute (uphill) walk to the bars and restaurants of Parque Lleras. With dated furnishings and a few maintenance issues to test your patience, rooms are underwhelming and could certainly do with a touch of style and a fresh coat of paint. But the overall experience is comfortable enough, and rates here can be a bargain given the hotel’s central location and amenities (especially for families). Service is inconsistent and varies from warm and semi-efficient reception staff and bellboys to downright surly servers in the restaurants/bars and by the pool (don’t think to disturb them when they are on their cellphones).
