In the center of town, below a shopping center, Katarina occupies a vaulted red-brick cellar, decorated with the coats of arms of local noble families. It is a little more formal here, tending toward the pretentious side of things. At lunchtime the restaurant attracts tour groups, which can slightly spoil the atmosphere, which is more romantic and locals-oriented at night. The kitchen turns out delicious regional specialties, such as venison in a date and cranberry sauce, or fresh carp from the River Mura, which are best accompanied by local wines. Look out for Lovrec Chardonnay, made by one of the region’s top small-scale wine producers.
