The Spiegelsaal (Hall of Mirrors), in the Neues Schloss at Schlossplatz, is the splendid backdrop for an annual international chamber-music festival. It takes place from the end of April to May. You may hear, for example, baroque ensembles, a string quartet, or a pianist playing the works of Schumann. Tickets start at 16€. Call tel. 07541/2033300 for information.

The Stadttheater Konstanz, the oldest theater in Germany, dating from 1609, moves to its summer theater in Meersburg during July and August. For more details about the Meersburg program offerings, call tel. 07531/900150.

Other than the cultural offerings mentioned above, after dark in Meersburg means taking a romantic stroll along the Uferpromenade bordering the lake and visiting one of the bars or Bierhalles. The most charming and traditional place for a drink is at the Winzerstube zum Becher, which also is our preferred choice for dining , although you can visit just for drinks. On the Market Square, another fun place to go in the evening is the Weinstube Löwen, a delightful, centuries-old inn covered in vines. If you like to enjoy a lake view with your drinks, head for the Seehotel Off, Uferpromenade (tel. 07532/44740; www.hotel.off.mbo.de), fronting the Bodensee. It's especially romantic around here at night.
