Planning a trip to Meersburg
For tourist information, contact the Meersburg Tourismus, Kirchstrasse 4 (tel. 07532/440400; www.meersburg.de). May to September, it's open Monday to Friday 9am to 12:30pm and 2 to 6pm; and Monday to Friday 9am to noon and 2 to 4pm in the off-season.
Special Events -- The surrounding vineyards produce excellent wine, and on the second weekend in September, winemakers around the lake come to Meersburg for the Bodensee Weinfest (Lake Constance Wine Festival).
Getting There
By Plane
Regional flights come into the Friedrichshafen airport, 20km (12 miles) from Meersburg. The nearest international airport is at Zürich, 80km (50 miles) away.
By Train
The nearest rail station is in Uhldingen-Mühlhofen, 5km (3 miles) away, on the Basel-Singen-Radolfzell-Lindau rail line, with frequent connections in all directions. Call tel. 01805/996633 for more information. From Uhldingen-Mühlhofen station, buses depart for Meersburg at 30-minute intervals every day from 6am to 10pm, charging 1.90€ each way. Buses are marked either MEERSBURG or FRIEDRICHSHAFEN but always bear no. 7395 on the front.
By Bus
Buses arrive about every 30 minutes throughout the day from Friedrichshafen. Regional bus service along Lake Constance is provided by RAB Regionalverkehr Alb-Bodensee GmbH in Friedrichshafen (tel. 07541/30130; www.zugbus-rab.de).
By Ferry
Between April and October regular ferries make the 30-minute trip to Konstanz. Depending on the season, anywhere from 6 to 12 boats leave between 8:30am and 6pm, with just as many making the return trip.
By Car
Access by car is via the A7 and A96 autobahns from the north or Hwy. B31. You can drive from Munich in about 3 hours, from Frankfurt in about 4 1/2 hours, and from Stuttgart in about 2 hours.
