Checkered tablecloths, paper plates, plastic cutlery—Gus's is nothing fancy, but it is a legend. Tens of thousands make the annual pilgrimage to this roadside shack with roots going back to the 1950s, primarily for the spicy-battered chicken but also for the baked beans, cole slaw, fries, and pies that accompany it (there are no meat options aside from poultry). The service is friendly but slow, so don't go here when you're in a rush. Gus's now has outposts in Collierville, Nashville, Arkansas, and Texas.
