This 42-story luxury hotel has the distinction of having hosted President Barack Obama on both of his visits to Mexico City, in 2009 and 2012. What makes it worthy of the "leader of the free world"? We're guessing it isn't just the fact that the hotel has the word "Presidente" in its name. No, this hotel does hospitality right. Stand for a millisecond in the lobby with a map, looking lost, and immediately two or three staffers will be at your elbow, asking to help. Beyond service, as you'd expect from a hotel this tall, the views are thrilling. We thought the rooms were pretty darn nice, too, but have learned they're going to be fully renovated in late 2014 going into 2015, so we can't really offer a review here. As for the hotel's other facilities, those are world leader worthy, from the six onsite restaurants (including the highly rated Au Pied du Cochon) to the very proper afternoon tea served in the Balmoral Restaurant every afternoon complete with decadent, freshly-made pastries. And for those of us who don't get a motorcade for our transportation needs, there's a metro station just a five-minute walk from the hotel.
