Acqualina Resort & Residences

Though the Denny’s across the street is long gone, there are still Walgreens and various strip malls in this bustling, beachfront area, a favorite among visiting Russians (which gives it its nickname “Little Moscow”). But once you step inside, you forget that you’re even in Miami and feel as if you’re on the Italian Riviera. Constantly on every “best of” hotel list, this is luxe on steroids. On 4.5 beachfront acres, with more than 400 feet of Atlantic coastline, Acqualina is a Mediterranean-style resort with baroque fountains, 98 huge, ultra cushy standard rooms so big they’d be called junior suites elsewhere,  and apartment-like one, two, and three-bedroom suites with fully-stocked Sub-Zero fridges. Three chichi restaurants are on property and the spa is one of Miami’s poshest (which is saying a lot). The hotel has three pools just steps away from the beach. The hotel’s AcquaMarine Program has a splashy array of marine-biology activities for kids and adults. Best of all, the chance of some teeny-bopper tabloid figure partying here is unlikely. In fact, there’s really no scene here at all, which, for some, is bliss.
