It’s fair to say this Ocean Drive hotel is unique not just in Miami but probably the world. For [’]tis the former Versace Mansion, the 1930 Mediterranean manse transformed into an over-the-top party palace by the eponymous flamboyant Italian designer murdered on its front steps in 1997. After many ups and downs, the newest owners reopened it in 2014, under the management of local restaurateur/impresario Barton G. Weiss, to one-percenters itching to indulge in the sybaritic likes of enormous themed suites worthy of a Renaissance prince (with frescoed walls and ceilings, original paintings, the works); a pool inlaid with a thousand mosaic tiles (including 24-karat gold); a cozy watering hole with an onyx bar; rooftop sundeck; and an indoor/outdoor Mediterranean restaurant with $58 entrees.
