Housed in an 1825 church, with soaring ceilings, this fine-dining restaurant and next-door bistro aims high. If you're in the mood for a sandwich or funky quesadilla, especially for lunch, try the Red Bistro/Bar (which is also open very late on weekends). Otherwise, check out the elegant main dining room, where chef/owner Josh Kroner cooks up imaginative takes on American cuisine -- adding Mexican and Asian twists -- with the freshest of local ingredients. Start out with a selection of tapas, such as grilled lamb chop with chimichurri sauce, and proceed to an appetizer like potato gnocchi with sautéed duck livers, shiitake mushrooms, and leeks. Tempting main courses include Hudson Valley duck and horseradish-crusted, sushi-grade ahi tuna. Terrapin's extensive and well-priced wine list is one of the Valley's best.
