Hotel Maison Moschino

Secreted behind the 19th-century facade of a former railway station, the gloriously off-the-wall Moschino offers some of Milan's most eccentric lodgings. Moschino's madcap but distinctive dress designs make eccentric lampshades and liberally scatter the snowy white reception along with a clutch of stuffed lambs; the slightly studied, over-designed feel continues into the bar. Each bedroom has a handkerchief-sized bathroom and a whimsical theme taken from the magical world of nursery rhymes, where headboards become frocks and gold clouds float on ceilings, tree trunks become bed supports and stuffed wolves grin from the beds.

Despite all the studied cool, the staff are friendly and professional, the hotel is an easy stroll from the high-end shopping of Corso Como, and the Centro Storico and all its attractions is a speedy under-10-minute metro ride away. The cool grays of AmaTI spa provide a welcome refuge after a hard day's sightseeing, even if the restaurant is rather overwhelmed by yet more of Moschino's fairytale ballgowns.
