Fabbrica del Vapore

A newcomer to the hitherto rather stuffy Milan arts scene, the stark industrial-chic Fabbrica del Vapore ("steam factory') is a vast venue featuring workshops for local artisans and a gigantic barn-like space that hosts major international shows such as the son-et-lumìere visual feast featuring the life and works of Vincent van Gogh. In the once-dilapidated area just north of Milan's Chinatown, the abandoned factory formerly made rolling stock for railways and was rescued in 2008 by the municipality of Milan. It is now one of the coolest venues in the city, a fact borne out by the complete inability of the small bar and its inadequate staff to deal with the sheer numbers through the door on show nights.
