Among the buzzing restaurants and bars in the artsy Brera district, this casual, pleasantly chaotic osteria is a reliable pick. Its menu of pasta and pizza staples may not be vastly different from other Brera dining options—Sans Egal (Vicolo Fiori 2;; tel. 02/869-3096) and Nabucco (Via Fiori Chiari 10;; tel. 02/860-663) are also good—but Osteria Il Kaimano wins out for its cozy atmosphere and warm service. Strong choices include zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta, ravioli with smoked ham and radicchio, or the Neapolitan-style pizzas that continually slide out of the wood-burning oven. Given the translated menu posted outside, it might look like a tourist trap, but the food (and abundance of locals who frequent the place) tells another story.
