The Evangeline
A selection of art and design books are left in every guestroom at the Evangeline, but you likely won’t need to consult them to determine just how stylish this 5-acre hospitality complex is. Rooms in the inn section have hardwood floors, and the types of contemporary but Mid-Century Modern-esque furnishings you’d be proud to have in your own house (they’re all crafted by artisans in Canada). There’s also an entire five-bedroom vacation home; and five rooms at the childhood home of Sir Robert Borden, the former Prime Minister of Canada, where you’ll see the elementary school notebooks of his children on the library shelves and other Borden-era items scattered throughout, like an Edwardian wardrobe with hand carved handles. Weekend brunches, lunch, and dinner (and an impressive local wine list) are served at the excellent onsite Longfellow Restaurant ★★. Other perks: infrared sauna, indoor heated pool, outdoor hot tub and fire pit.
